Nuclear Medicine & Stress Testing Heading

OFMC’s Imaging Department encompasses several divisions of imaging modalities, of which Nuclear Medicine is included.

The Nuclear Medicine division of our Imaging Department assists in the detection and diagnosing of a variety of diseases and/or health related problems that a patient may be experiencing. This division utilizes a state of the art dual-headed SPECT imaging camera to acquire pictures of body areas. We are also proud of the fact that this division has achieved accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR) which is a national organization that recognizes imaging modalities having and maintaining high quality standards.  This achievement also recognizes that the Nuclear Medicine division team members utilized are certified licensed individuals such as Technologists, Cardiologists and Radiologists.

Here’s just a few of the tests that are performed by our Nuclear Medicine team members:

  • Cardiac Nuclear Stress Test – The Cardiac Nuclear Stress Test is designed to assess the health of your heart, in an effort to see if any blood flow to the heart is blocked.  Essentially it is for detecting and evaluating your coronary arteries, the vessels that provide the blood flow to your heart. This test shows detailed pictures of your heart when it is under stress, such as walking on a treadmill under the guidance of the Cardiologist present; and while at rest, laying down on the scanning table.

  • Bone Scan – This scan can detect and evaluate cancer of the bones, arthritis and trauma to any part of the body.

  • HIDA Scan – This scan is used to detect issues or blockages of the gallbladder and/or its bile ducts.

  • Gastric Emptying Study – This study examines the stomach and how well it empties. Some symptoms of abnormal gastric emptying are: heartburn, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

  • Liver/Spleen Study – This study provides an assessment of liver function and can determine if liver disease is present and also if any liver/spleen lesion are present.

  • Gated Blood Pool Study (MUGA) – This study assesses the motion and strength of your heart wall.
